environmentalist and human rights activist died in Trivandrum Medical College due to covid .she tested positive and was undergoing treatment for severe pneumonia and was in ventilator support.she was 86.She was one of three daughters of Bodheeswaran and Kartyayani Being the first chaiperson of women's commission formed in 1996.her activism against atrocities towards women by their husbands and children and those who are mentally ill led to the formation of "Abhaya " a home for distressed and destitutes.her campaign to improve the facilities of mental health hospitals where the inmates are kept in single cell with only toilets brought to fruition by Narendran Commision .
She led the 'save silent valley' agitation and wrote many poems on nature which got her many accolades like Saraswati Samman in 2012 for
Manalezhuthu and Kendra sahitya academy award in 1978 for rathrimazha a noted literary recognition of India .I got to listen to some of her poems of which "marathinu sthuthi -Hymns to tree " is prominent one.
